Hailed as being “committed,” “energetic,” and exhibiting feline grace in her approach to percussive performance, Dr. Lusha Anthony is a versatile and dynamic percussionist with a passion for contemporary music. Interested in collaborative works and electro-acoustic music, her goal as a performer and an educator is to share the beauty of music with audiences inside and outside the contemporary music scene.
As a supporter of new music, Lusha has premiered numerous works, including Concertpop, by Andrea Mazzariello - a solo work for percussion and keyboard trigger, and Busker Fantasy, by Peter Van Zandt Lane - a percussion concerto for found objects, in which she was featured as a soloist. Additional performance highlights include being a featured artist for the first full percussion concert at the Shanghai Oriental Arts Center's “Future Masters” series, collaborating with the Liaoning Province Electroacoustic Band in their “Crash -- Fusion” concert series, performing as a soloist for Sean Friar’s Clunker Concerto with the Purchase Symphony Orchestra, performances with contemporary piano legends Gil Kalish and Tina Dahl, the New York New Music Ensemble, Roomful of Teeth, Natalie Merchant, the New York Chamber Brass, Honolulu Symphony, and the Oahu Choral Society.
As a collaborator, Lusha has worked with musicians, actors, dancers, and visual artists in a variety of genres. Significant collaborations include serving as the musical director for the show Blood Wedding at the Conservatory of Acting at Purchase College. She also participated in curating and performing in several concert programs for the Neuberger Museum to promote their numerous exhibitions.
